The Manitou Springs is offering a paid work study position. The candidate will oversee the daily operations of the museum, and contribute to exhibits, programs and collection management activities. This position is a great entry- level position in the museum field; providing experience in visitor services, retail, exhibit development, and collection management.
Applicants should be self-motivated and have an interest working in museums. Coursework in museum studies and/or history is required. Experience working in a museum, or in a history, art or anthropology collection is a plus.
The workstudy’s main responsibility is overseeing the daily operations of the museum:
Front of house responsibilities include opening and closing building under established procedures, turning on exhibits, and preparing and stocking museum store. Attendant is responsible for security and cleanliness of exhibit and public space. This will require monitoring exhibit space while guests are in attendance, and cleaning exhibits under best practices in collection care.
- Greet visitors, inform about exhibits, and record guests in daily log. This requires familiarity with exhibits and museum programs.
- Oversee museum store sales using Square and recording sales in daily log.
Additional responsibilities may include:
1. Assisting with the development of social media posts to increase access to our exhibits, archival and object collection; and increase engagement.
2. Assist in the development of in-house and online exhibits and programs. This may include contributing research and content, and digitizing archival materials from the museum collection.
3. Processing Museum collection materials and updating or adding records to PastPerfect database.
4. Other duties as assigned to support general operation of the museum.
