Policy Council Support Intern
Colorado Resilience (COR) is seeking two part time, 8-10 hours a week, interns to support our Family System Policy Council (FSPC). We are currently forming/recruiting for the FSPC and plan for our first meeting in mid-June in the Denver area.
COR’s mission is to protect the health, safety, and well-being of children whose parents separate or divorce. You can read more about the systemic problems COR is trying to address in the attached FSPC overview.
COR’s goal for the FSPC is to have 4-6 bills sponsored, introduced, and passed in the 2025 Colorado legislative session. To achieve our ambitious goals, we need the support of two policy, research, and marketing-minded interns to help us build broad support with legislators/candidates and in the community.
Essential Skills:
- Reliable, self-motivated, independent thinker. Ability to overcome obstacles with minimal oversight or guidance.
- Good written, verbal, and persuasive communication skills.
- Capable researcher with analytical skills.
- Creative problem solver.
Responsibilities: Still developing and this is more from the perspective of what we as a team needs to get done.
- Organize an effective outreach campaign to all candidates and sitting state Senators to heighten their awareness, understand their positions on the issues, and court them as potential bill sponsors.
- Research similar legislation in other states and assist in adapting it for Colorado.
- Write position papers/briefs supporting our policies.
- Work with social media team to raise community awareness of the issues and our work.
- Support and help organize meetings however needed.
Important to understand our legislative goals.
Every year, thousands of men and women advocate to fix the broken systems of family court, CPS, and domestic violence in almost every state. However, very few are successful in getting legislation passed. They fall short because they are usually individuals or small groups that don’t have the wherewithal to overcome the politics and bureaucratic systems. We know because we’ve been there.
This time, we’re getting organized earlier and with broader support from the community, policymakers, and system leaders. This year, we expect to create a successful organizational model that other states will want to follow.
Adding to the complexity of today’s political divide are gender dynamics, false narratives, and misinformation campaigns. While COR has made a lot of progress on many fronts, achieving our goals will be hard!
