Global Brigades is a club devoted to promoting awareness about disparities in countries such as Panama, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, and Ghana. The club will participate in lectures and workshops to become more aware of the different issues in these countries while preparing to travel for a one-week trip to set up camp in the country of their choice. During each brigade, the students will participate in a Medical Brigade and Public Health Brigade working on providing Natives access to health care with an emphasis on preventative care. In the country of their choice, students will help package and sort medications, triage patients, and shadow local physicians. In addition to that, students will have the opportunity to interact with locals and teach simple lectures on preventative healthcare and how patients can better protect themselves from preventable diseases common in Central America. The goal of this club is to continually host yearly missions in these countries and expand our reach, allowing students of future generations to help give back to these communities. The club also hopes to provide participants with invaluable experience and knowledge about health disparities that exist across the world and how we can become better, more culturally competent healthcare practitioners when addressing these issues.
